Boarding House

A boarding school on a farm!

The Waldorf School at Rosemary Hill has boarding facilities catering for boys and girls from Grade 1 to Grade 9.

Our boarding school offers the following:

  • weekly and full boarding options
  • caring, responsible and long serving hostel parents
  • balanced and nutritious home cooked meals
  • access to extra-mural activities on offer at school
  • a beautiful, safe and care-free country setting promoting the school’s ethos:

Where children love to learn!

Our dedicated hostel parents, Shanti and Selvan, provide the children with a home away from home. Here on the farm in the east of Pretoria, children can enjoy home cooked meals, an abundance of outdoor playtime and social interaction, supervised study time and any of the school’s extra-mural activities on offer. The hostels are situated in homely buildings surrounded by large trees, blue skies and spacious green lawns and is just a short walk across the farm from the school.

The children are roomed in age-appropriate groups, with separate facilities for girls and boys. There is a strong emphasis on a reassuring routine, outdoor time and minimum use of television and electronic equipment. We offer the children the opportunity to participate in organised school activities such as mixed martial arts, ballet, soccer, netball and ballroom/hip-hop dancing amongst others. There are also various stables and horse riding schools in close proximity of the boarding school, for which parents may make their own arrangements in consultation with their child’s hostel parent.

The hostel parents keep in touch with the parents on a regular basis. Social events are organised for parents and hostel parents to get to know each other and for parents to get a feel for their child’s boarding school experience.

Weekly boarders are signed out on a Friday afternoon once all school commitments have been met. They can be signed in again on Sunday afternoons before 19:00 or on a Monday morning before 07:30. All boarders are required to leave the boarding house over the mid-term breaks and on certain closed weekends.

Dining

Balanced and nutritious meals are served in the thatched roof dining room. Meals are served ‘buffet style’ and children may dish up for themselves. Vegetarians are catered for, as are children with special dietary requirements, such as wheat-free diets, Halaal food, etc.

Weekends

Over weekends the full boarders are taken on outings like ice skating, the movies, mountain biking or picnicking on the farm.

Foreign Students

We welcome foreign students who speak English. They are required to obtain a student study visa from the Department of Home Affairs and must have a letter from the school confirming that they will be students at The Waldorf School.
